It can be hard to know what to look for in a Disability Employment Services (DES) Provider and even harder to tell if your current provider is doing a good job.
- Are you understood?
A Disability Employment Services Provider needs to take the time to build a relationship with you to help you find your best potential.
- Commitment and flexibility.
Your Job Coach should commit to supporting you in a way that works for you. There needs to be flexibility in communications to fit in with your life and needs. Ideally, you will have options to call, text, facetime or check in at locations that suit you.
- Experience and Support
Your Job Coach should help you arrange and prepare you for interviews. Importantly they should be there to support you before the interview and at the end of the interview so you can debrief and learn from the experience.
- Ongoing support
There needs to be a commitment to ongoing support for you and your employer after you start your new job. You should ask when you start with your Job Coach what their post-placement support involves and how they will continue to assist you to perform your best.
- Your choice matters.
You should feel comfortable in making this journey with the people you choose. We highly recommend speaking with your future Job Coach before you transfer to ensure you’re making the right decision.
