Transforming lives through inclusive employment: How Transdev is leading the way

3 minute read

In a world where the job market is constantly evolving, inclusivity has become a vital cornerstone of success.

Leading employers are increasingly acknowledging the immense value of providing opportunities to individuals from all walks of life.

Transdev Australia and New Zealand, recently recognised with the Enterprising at Heart award at the Asuria Employer Awards 2025, is a prime example of a business dedicated to forging new pathways for inclusivity and a diverse workforce.

The collaboration between Transdev and Asuria exemplifies a strong commitment to inclusive recruitment practices and retention strategies focusing on supporting disadvantaged individuals and promoting genuine diversity within their organisation.

This collaboration has not only helped diversify Transdev’s workforce but has also empowered participants to secure stable, rewarding jobs.

A standout initiative from this partnership is the co-designed Customer Service Officer training program, which helps participants with employment gaps gain valuable skills and industry accreditation.

The program focuses primarily on the growth of the Light Rail division and has led to high job retention rates.

Many participants report feeling more confident in securing employment after completing the program, such as Caleb, a young First Nations individual who recently moved from Hobart to Sydney. Referred to the Customer Service Officer training program to improve his prospects, Caleb excelled, showcasing his determination and skills. His success earned him a role as a Customer Service Officer, where he’s now a highly valued member of the Transdev team.

Beyond training programs, Transdev’s dedication to inclusion is driven further with their co-designed recruitment pathways with Asuria.

The company has implemented tailored recruitment pathways for Asuria participants, ensuring that individuals with various skills and backgrounds have a fair shot at employment. These pathways include direct communication with Transdev’s Talent Acquisition team, and interview adjustments to support candidates through the process.

This growing collaboration has facilitated over 36 life-changing career starts, including First Nations participants, people living with disability, youth, mature-aged and those from culturally diverse backgrounds with half of these individuals having been long term unemployed, showcasing Transdev’s inclusive and supportive work culture and commitment.

Transdev’s focus on creating meaningful employment opportunities for those facing barriers reflects its dedication to providing a nurturing and empowering workplace for all employees and in doing so Transdev continues to demonstrate Asuria’s Enterprising Heart values.

Together with Asuria, we’ve created structured, supportive pathways for jobseekers facing disadvantage due to unemployment. Our hiring philosophy is centred on a candidate's attitudes and competencies, ensuring we focus on their potential rather than past employment gaps.

We’re looking forward to welcoming more candidates, and changing more lives, through this pathway in the years ahead.”

Transdev’s efforts to promote inclusion and diversity has set a powerful example for others in the public transport sector—and beyond—showing how diversity, equity and inclusion can drive real change.
