Shining the spotlight on 2018 National Skills Week

2 minute read

Today marks the beginning of National Skills Week for 2018!

Here at PeoplePlus, we'll be using this week to shine a spotlight on the great work that our Registered Training Organisation AETS does in educating and motivating students in Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) system.

National Skills Week aims to showcase and highlight the diversity of vocational education, the opportunities, career pathways and success stories.

Debbie - AETS Student (Tasmania)

"I moved to Tassie around 18 months ago and wanted to find work. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, and at my age of 54, I was too young to retire – I wanted to find an enjoyable job for the next 10 years.

I knew that Aged Care was a growth industry with lots of job opportunities, so I enrolled in the Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015) through AETS.

I started the course not knowing if I would like it - turns out I loved it! My trainer was fantastic, the course was really thorough, and I made a bunch of new friends who I still keep in touch with.

After I completed the course through AETS I felt confident and equipped with the right skills to succeed in Aged Care.

I recently finished my placement at a local facility which went really well, and I'm now studying a Bachelor of Dementia Care at the University of Tasmania and waiting to hear back from my placement facility about a permanent role.
