Today marks the celebration of International Women’s Day – a day to reflect on how far we as a society have come, and how far we still have to go to achieve true gender equality.
On March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) recognises the important role we all play in breaking down stereotypes and gendered roles to help create a world where girls and women have the same rights and opportunities as boys and men.
Here at PeoplePlus, we’re reflecting on this year’s IWD theme of ‘More Powerful Together’ by taking a look at some of the ways we as an organisation are contributing to making a more gender-balanced world.
Our women are leaders
At PeoplePlus, we pride ourselves on empowering women to lead and manage our business.
“I’m proud to say that the majority of our workforce are women,” said Emma Crichton, Executive Director - Skills.
“Just under half of the PeoplePlus’ Executive Team are women, and many of the women in our workforce are working mums.
“At PeoplePlus, we’re all united through a common bond of understanding the challenges women face daily, such as balancing family with career expectations and rising to leadership,” Emma shared.
By playing an important role in bringing gender equality to PeoplePlus, we’re empowering women to pursue their career goals in the wider Employment Services industry.
Support for women
In a business that is driven by women, it’s important to understand their needs and provide support where we can.
PeoplePlus has a diverse range of benefits for the women who work within our organisation, which include a paid parental leave policy, flexible working arrangements for mums, and an Employee Assistance Program for those who need additional support outside of business hours.
Every day our team works to make a positive impact on the lives of our clients. In addition to benefits for women within our workforce, we also have assistance programs tailored to women, such as the ParentsNext program which has been created to assist mums with returning to work before their children start school.
Men taking a stand
We all have an important role to play when building a gender-balanced world, and the men at PeoplePlus are encouraged to discuss gender equality and to take a stand against sexism.
In late 2018, the men at PeoplePlus stood for the organisation’s zero tolerance violence against women policy by participating in a Tug O’War competition hosted by White Ribbon
The Tug O’ War Cup saw White Ribbon-supporting men from schools, organisations and local businesses like PeoplePlus compete in teams of five and participate in some friendly competition.
As part of the event, participants and spectators were invited to pledge their support by taking the White Ribbon oath to “stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women”.
