Michael sets his wheels in motion by turning a dream into an exciting career

2 minute read

Everyone has a dream in life and with some persistence and support from mentors like the Team at YEP, young people like Michael can achieve their dreams, even if it's to own a limousine!

19-year-old Michael was homeless and had low self-esteem and confidence when he signed up for our services for the Transition to Work program.

His mentor Claire and the team worked intensively with him to build up his confidence and tease out all of his transferable skills. The YEP team also assisted Michael in finding suitable housing and access to funding for training and work preparation skills.

While this was happening, Claire was also working hard to reverse market Michael to employers. She contacted the owner of a local fruit market to tell him about Michael and a possible wage subsidy and he said that he was looking for someone part-time for fruit packing.

Michael was more than keen to be put forward for the position, so Claire worked with him to get him prepared for the interview and provided him with work clothes.

Michael nailed his interview and is now working 20 hours a week. His life has changed significantly since gaining employment. After a few months of saving, he's now bought himself a limo and is intending to start his own limo business on top of his job at the fruit shop.

It just goes to show that supporting them into a job can give young people the financial independence to reach for their dreams - no matter what they might be!

The team at PeoplePlus and YEP Australia would like to congratulate Michael on this fantastic achievement and wish you continued success in your career.
