Forty-one years ago, Kim and her family left their home in Cambodia as refugees, arriving in Australia at only twelve years old. She faced numerous challenges growing up in a new country and describes her childhood as a difficult and painful time of her life.
She had always been fascinated by the dynamics of family relationships, which came from a strained relationship with her mother. Becoming a mother and raising her own children helped Kim to fully understand parenthood, and she slowly realised that her professional and personal knowledge could help other families through parenting coaching services.
After finding the inspiration to help other parents manage their relationships with their children through coaching, in October 2022 Kim discovered Asuria’s Self-Employment Assistance program in Werribee and connected with her Business Mentor, Pauline.
Through Pauline’s guidance, Kim underwent an eight-week Micro Business Skillset course, following which she transitioned into small business coaching for twelve months. Through financial support and mentoring, Kim sharpened her business skills and developed a targeted business model, learning to consider factors such as workshop facilitation, social media engagement and lead generations. Pauline and Kim created a business model that focuses on social media and online platforms to reach a wider audience.
As a first-time business owner, Kim was overwhelmed with the process of setting up her business, so Pauline helped her break it down into smaller, more manageable steps. Through this, they developed a clear target market: parents wanting to form stronger connections with their children.
From here, Pauline and Kim began to refine the final steps of the process, establishing clear price points and developing a networking plan to seek out clients. With the business skills she acquired, Kim set up her Facebook page and launched her ‘Parenting Skills Coaching’ website in March 2023.
Sharing her experience with Asuria, Kim commented, “All the trainers and Business Mentors I met at Asuria are well experienced, helpful, and provided good advice in creating my business plan. I am grateful to have Pauline as my Business Mentor; she really put all her effort into helping me grow my business.”
Pauline spoke on Kim’s journey, sharing, “It’s wonderful to work with Kim and see her constantly grow her knowledge and skills on this path. Her passion for helping parents and dedication to continuous learning will see her evolve, and I look forward to supporting her as she builds her business.”
Since launching her business, Kim has supported more than thirty parents in navigating better parent-child connection, effective communication, authentic connection and conflict resolution. Her invaluable experience gives her the opportunity to help parents struggling to have strong connections with their children by offering a unique approach as both a child who has experienced a strained relationship and a parent who has experienced a positive one.
We wish Kim all the best as she strives to positively impact families and communities across Australia. If you’d like to learn more about how our Self-Employment Assistance program can help you turn your business dreams into a reality, click here.
