Asuria participant kickstarts career after having three kids

2 minute read

For many parents, committing to a new pathway can be challenging.

After dedicating so much of your time to your kids, it can be difficult to adjust your routine, and it may feel unnatural to be focusing on your own needs.

As a married, stay-at-home mum of three beautiful kids, Cristie always wished to see herself in a fulfilling career once her children were old enough to attend school.

For Cristie, returning to work would mean she could provide her family with a second income, all while finding something new to be passionate about.

With these goals in mind, the only thing holding Cristie back was a lack of direction, as she was unsure of how to begin her journey.

“I didn’t know where to start, and I didn’t have the confidence to start. I didn’t know what I wanted to do,” explained Cristie.

This is all changed, however, when a close friend recommended she look into completing a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) through Asuria.

Cristie recalls feeling a lot of anticipation during the first few days. Although enthusiastic about learning, Cristie hadn’t stepped foot in a classroom since her high school days and was unsure if she’d be able to keep up, particularly with the online components of the course.

However, thanks to her Asuria trainer, Pat Flower, Cristie’s concerns left quicker than they arrived, as Pat helped her transition to online learning.

While the online support was fantastic, for Cristie, the most valuable assistance she received was the positive affirmations that Pat gave her. Whenever Cristie began to doubt herself, Pat reminded Cristie that if she could be a mother, then she could pass her course and work in aged care.

“I loved the course and knew this career path was what I had been looking for. I found the course was suited to me and my three children’s needs, and it was all very flexible,” said Cristie.

After finishing the course in December last year, Cristie successfully received her certificate and is now working in aged care. Cristie started her employment as soon as the school holidays ended and is finding the work incredibly rewarding and manageable alongside her parental responsibilities.

“My future is looking great, and I would recommend doing a course with Asuria; it has changed my life.”
