3 minute read

Asuria is proud to announce that it’s set to be represented by three finalists at the prestigious 2024 NESA Awards for Excellence, highlighting our ongoing commitment to transforming lives through meaningful employment.

Since 2004, the NESA Awards have recognised outstanding achievements in employment services, celebrating those who work tirelessly to improve the well-being of individuals, families, and communities through employment inclusion. The awards serve as a benchmark for excellence within the sector while showcasing the life-changing impact of employment services.

As a leading public service provider, Asuria supports thousands of people each year through services spanning employment support, training and education, justice, business start-up services, and health and wellbeing programs. Our shortlisted nominations reflect the breadth of our impact across the employment services landscape.

In the Champion Employer of the Year category, our employer partner Transdev Australasia has been recognised for their exceptional commitment to inclusive employment practices. Operating across Australia's public transport sector, Transdev has demonstrated outstanding leadership in creating sustainable employment opportunities for disadvantaged job seekers. Their dedication to diversity is embedded in their workforce, which includes people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those living with disability, First Nations People, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and long-term unemployed individuals.

Esther Garforth's shortlisting for Employer Engagement Practitioner of the Year celebrates her remarkable impact across Tasmania and nationally. As National Activations Manager, Esther has revolutionised employer engagement practices, particularly through her work with local businesses like Cripps Bakery. Her innovative approaches to recruitment and pre-employment programs have not only created sustainable employment opportunities but have also set new benchmarks for diversity and inclusion in traditional industries.

Perhaps most inspiring is the shortlisting of Mykola Belo for the Achiever of the Year Award. Mykola's journey from fleeing Ukraine to securing a cadetship with Lendlease exemplifies the transformative power of determined spirit combined with targeted support. Despite facing significant challenges, including language barriers and the trauma of displacement, Mykola has not only secured meaningful employment but is also pursuing his Bachelor of Engineering at RMIT, demonstrating remarkable resilience and dedication to building a new life in Australia.

Nicole Grainger-Marsh, CEO of Asuria Australia, says of the finalists: "These shortlistings reflect the essence of what we strive for at Asuria – creating meaningful pathways to employment through innovative partnerships, dedicated professionals, and unwavering support for those facing barriers to work.

“Each finalist represents a different aspect of our mission, from Transdev's commitment to inclusive employment, to Esther's excellence in employer engagement, to Mykola's inspiring journey of resilience. Their achievements remind us of the profound impact employment services can have in transforming lives and building stronger communities."

The winners will be announced at the upcoming NESA Awards ceremony in Brisbane on December 5th, where these outstanding achievements in employment services will be celebrated alongside other industry leaders committed to creating positive change through employment inclusion.

Regardless of the final outcome, these finalist nominations are a shining example of Asuria's commitment to empowering people, communities, and nations through effective and productive employment solutions, reminding us that behind every successful placement and partnership are real stories of transformation, resilience, and hope.
