When companies champion diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, they foster innovation, bring in unique perspectives and cultivate a positive environment for all employees.
Arjo has demonstrated its commitment to creating inclusive workplaces on a global scale, earning the well-deserved Diversity and Inclusion Impact Award at the Asuria Employer Awards 2025.
As a leading provider of medical devices, services, and solutions, Arjo operates in over 60 countries, striving to create a sustainable environment for healthcare professionals and their patients.
Arjo’s operations are driven by a genuine passion that extends to their recruitment practices, ensuring they foster an engaging, safe, and inclusive workplace. This commitment to inclusivity led to a strong partnership between Arjo and Asuria, focused on enhancing diversity within their workforce.
Arjo’s recruitment for Asuria participants emphasises diverse talent sourcing, inclusive warehouse tours with line managers, and clear job postings that highlight diversity and provide accessibility adjustments. Line managers are trained to support participants with disability, fostering an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture.
The tours not only provide an opportunity for open discussions about the role but also gives potential hires direct interaction with the work environment and the chance to build rapport with existing team members. At the core of the process is a simple yet powerful focus: to identify the best-fit employees in a relaxed, pressure-free manner.
Arjo has worked beyond the hiring process to ensure that they’re not only creating meaningful opportunities for people with disability, but sustainable ones.
Erin Nicholson, Arjo HR Business Partner – Asia Pacific shared, "At Arjo, we are immensely proud of our strong and successful working relationship with Asuria. Their support has been instrumental in the success of our Disability Employment Program. Together, we have created meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities, fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace. The dedication and hard work of our employees is a testament to the positive impact of this collaboration. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Asuria to further our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion at Arjo".
Every employee, regardless of background or experience, receives personalised support to help them reach their full potential and achieve their professional goals. Line managers are trained to offer the appropriate support to people with disability, and experienced staff members are paired with newcomers to ensure they don’t feel lost or isolated at the beginning of their employment journey.
Understanding that recruitment is not one-size-fits-all, Arjo actively seeks feedback from all employees about their experiences, allowing them to continually refine their hiring, training, and accessibility practices to enhance overall workplace satisfaction.
Arjo has proven that not only are people with disability welcomed, but they are also given the necessary tools, support, and encouragement to succeed.
In 2024, Arjo employed six Asuria participants with disability across Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, with all participants overcoming their significant physical and mental barriers and forging their paths to success in their employment journey.
All Asuria participants employed with Arjo have expressed gratitude for the comprehensive and tailored support from Arjo. This included customised employment plans, mentorship, and regular feedback to ensure smooth transitions and ongoing development, improving retention while delivering significant commercial and cultural benefits.
Notably, two participants, Ryan and Jedeo, have successfully integrated into the workforce, with the help of Asuria’s joint venture partner, Jobedge, in South Australia.
Initially starting in June 2024 on flexible, casual hours, and after extensive support and mentoring from both Jobedge Mentors and Arjo’s experienced staff, they are now working full-time, rising to new challenges and grateful for the opportunity to pursue them.
The impact that Arjo’s inclusive and accessible hiring practices is immeasurable. They are a shining example of how pioneering disability inclusion, and doing recruitment differently can yield exceptional outcomes, setting a powerful example for others to follow.
