Ballarat resident, Anthony, is finding renewed purpose in a new role at HH Webb coffin and casket manufacturers, having been given a chance to put his troubled past behind him by compassionate local business owner, Cory.
Having battled drug addiction and spent time in prison, Anthony faced numerous obstacles in his quest for a stable life. As a single father to a child with special needs, the pressure to provide and set a positive example weighed heavily on his shoulders.
"I've made mistakes in my past," Anthony admits. "But I was determined to create a better future for my child and myself."
With the support of Brad, Asuria Employer Engagement Manager, Anthony, a Workforce Australia participant, was introduced to Cory, the owner of HH Webb.
Recognising Anthony's potential and willingness to work hard, Cory offered him a position as a
product assembler, crafting coffins and caskets.
"At first, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about working in the funeral industry," Anthony shares. "But I've found it to be incredibly rewarding. Every day, I'm helping families during their most difficult times, even if they don't see me directly."
"Working here has taught me a lot about compassion and the importance of treating everyone with dignity," Anthony reflects. "It's helped me become a better person, not just for myself, but for my child and for the people around me at work and at home.”
Anthony's dedication to his new role hasn't gone unnoticed. He's set to expand his skills by obtaining a forklift operating license, opening up more opportunities within the company. Moreover, his commitment to personal growth has impressed his employer, Cory.
"Anthony came to me and said, 'If you ever see me slipping, tell me to pull my head in,'" Cory
recounts. "That level of self-awareness and determination to stay on the right path is truly admirable."
Anthony is set to reach an important milestone on October 5th, marking six months into his
employment with HH Webb.
"I want others to know that it's never too late to turn your life around," Anthony says. "If I can do it, anyone can. You just need to be willing to put in the effort and accept help when it's offered."
